It's common knowledge that a bookworm tends to go a bit mental when they go book shopping. Impulse buys, having some extra cash to treat yourself or just reading the back of books and being intrigued. Sadly, it's also common knowledge that books get forgotten. They're abandoned, left there to gather dust and...it breaks my heart. But I do it. There's just too much to read!

Over the years, I've collected a lot of books, and a lot of them aren't read. Some I don't even have a clue what they're about, so an unhaul is probably likely to happen. But before that happens, I thought it would be a good idea to reminisce the books I've bought, been given or just...appeared on my bookshelf. Where did I get that book from? Why on earth did I buy this? Who knows.

side note: no joke, my place is starting to look like this.. stacks, everywhere.

Come see. If you wish to adopt any abandoned books, you're more than welcome to give them a home. Books need love too,  they demand to be read, that is their destiny.

1. The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame

This book I got when I was 5 months old. It's such a lovely book, a hardback still in good quality and looks nice on my shelf. It's just a shame I've not read it yet. This book is the veteran of my bookshelf, sitting proudly on there for over 26 years.
One day, my sweet. You will be read.

2. The Children's Book by A.S Byatt

I'm really not sure why I bought this book. I think the cover just sold it to me, but that was at a time when I just didn't know what I wanted to read. It was before I got into young adult books, so I think I juts went into the book shop and got...well, anything.
So, that is how this one came about to sit on my bookshelf. Unread and abandoned.

3. It Happened In Paris by Molly Hopkins

The reason I got this book? Well, we all know that chick lit is always easy to get into, it's a quick read for when you're not sure what to pick up. Not only that....but it's about Paris. If you know me at all, you'll be aware that I love anything to do with Paris. One of my favourite cities, so of course I bought this. I've just not picked it up. And as time has gone on, the reviews have gotten worse on GoodReads, so I've been apprehensive. Plus, the cover isn't really appealing to me.  I try not to judge books by covers but...damn. I will try it one day though, we shall see.

4. The Diviners by Libba Bray

I think the main reason I've not read this is because the size of it scares me. It's a hefty-arse book! And there were times when I was about to start it, but I always thought 'Nah, not yet'. Then, I picked up Libba's book 'Beauty Queens' and I didn't really like it. That also put me off, so maybe I'll try it in the future. Someone has to make me start this one, it's been so long since I've bought this one.
Also, I really like this cover.

5. Matched by Allie Condie

If you know me at all, you'll be aware that I've tried to read this book about 5 times. I've still never even made it half way and I just...I can't. It's awful. I can't even put into words how much this book annoys me, so this book will remain unfinished. Maybe it'll end up in a library or charity shop because 5 times is over my limit. It's had enough chances. I apologise, but you're remaining unloved from me, Matched.

6. Gone by Michael Grant

I did read some of this book but my interest in it was gone.
See what I did there? Ha. I'm sorry. So yes, I bought this because it was hot shit at the time, so why not? Also, I have the version that's pictured and it has bright pages. So pretty! Of course, that's a great way of getting young people to buy books, and it worked. I was a sucker and bought it. I'm not saying it was bad as I didn't get that far into it, I was just not in the mood at that point. I stopped, and just never picked it up again. I will try though, maybe when the mood strikes.
It's also quite a big book, so I'll have to prepare myself.

7. Vampire Academy by Rochelle Mead

This book was sent to me as a gift many years a go. I told them prior to them sending it that I dislike vampires, and yet here I am. With a vampire book on my shelf. I will read this at some point, I'll give it a chance because it was a gift, it's rude not to give it a try, but I also can't cast a book aside before giving it a go. Maybe when I do read some vampire books eventually, I'll pick this one up but it's not just a kind of story I'm into.

8. The Gift by Cecelia Ahern

I read one of her books, The Book of Tomorrow, when I was away in Paris many years a go, and really liked it. When I came back, it was nearing Christmas, so I decided to pick up this book. And yet, I didn't read it. Why? Because I'm an idiot. Years later, and it's still unread on my bookshelf. Shame on me!
Maybe this year? It's not long until Christmas.

9. Forsaken by Jana Oliver

In the early days of the Hunger Games movies, I attended the London premiere of the first movie. It feels like a lifetime a go! Anyway, before the stars showed up, we were handed a copy of this book. I've no idea what it's about except Demons but apart from that, I never really looked at it.  I can't help it, I was too darn excited about the premiere to even notice it! To this day, it's not been picked up.
I'm sorry, Forsaken. You will be loved!

10. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

One day at the bookshop, I felt inspired. I saw this book and said to myself 'you should read a classic. Read something different!' so I got this one. I read about 4 pages and didn't pick it up again. I will pick it up again, I jut don't know when. As I'm an English Lit student, it's likely I'll have to anyway, so why not get a head start? I've seen the movie (well, of course! It stars Leonardo DiCaprio!) and I really liked it, so I should really get going with this. It's not like it's a lengthy book, it's so small.
I know, I know. "How have you not read this yet?" Easy, I just ignored it!

So, there you have it. My secret shame. I can no longer pretend I've read these on my shelf, plus many more. I've been busy lately, but that's still no excuse. Some of these are very small books, and I still have time to read others. Why not these too? Sorry, books! Have you got any that have been on your bookshelf unread, longer than they should have?
