Last year, we have advocated for author appreciation through fan art. Creativity, we reasoned, breeds creativity. What inspired our favorite authors to pen their favorite pieces in turn inspires us. And sometimes - at times like these - this inspiration takes many forms as it changes hands. From the initial, insubstantial spark, it morphs into literary works of art, and then into visual art, into poetry and music and dance and song.
Let it never be said that we don't practice what we preach. (Although most of the time, we really, really don't.)
Susan Ee's Penryn and the End of Days, more commonly known as the Angelfall series, is endlessly inspirational in all the best ways. It is exactly the kind of piece which begs to be interpreted across all mediums, in endless variations. I would say that I have chosen to do it through digital art, but in this instance it was the digital art which chose me. In its inception, this piece was not meant to be a homage to all that Angelfall stands for. But in the shortest time, a homage to Angelfall it became.
Rather than to publish it when it was first created, we have chosen to wait until the release of End of Days, the final book in the series.
And today, the End of Days is here! (Raise your hand if you've always wanted to say that and have it actually be true. Now is your chance. Go and proclaim it to the world!)
We hope you share in our love of Angelfall, fallen angels, post-apocalyptic mayhem, sassy swords, sassy protagonists and the author who created it all. And we hope you pick up Susan Ee's End of Days before, you know, the actual end of days. As for now, feel free to leave us a comment below and let us know what you thought of the series (or this fanart), or whether you're planning on picking it up in the future.
